Project Wedding: The Reception

Reception Venue

After six glorious weeks in Europe for our wedding ceremony, honeymoon, and the Summer Olympics, we returned home to Vancouver to prepare for the wedding reception. As I mentioned in previous posts, the venue was given a travel theme within a vintage Provencal train station. Rectangular tables were used instead of round ones as I felt they better represented the backyard dining experiences of sunny homes in Provence. I kept the flower arrangements and table decor simple as many cozy French homes would have done. Here is the roundup of DIY touches we used to further create that atmosphere:

Welcome to Gare de Provence!
This was a hand painted sign on a piece of scrap board that we placed over the double door entrance of the venue.

Another hand painted sign to direct our guests to the balcony
at the back of the venue that was transformed into a train platform.

What train station would be complete without a departure board?
This was done really old school style with chalkboard paint and written in chalk.
It hung over the head table and served as the itinerary for the night.

Guests must have a place to hang up their coats!
Our coat room was converted into a “Left Luggage” room (or baggage claim for us North Americaners).
Each hanger had its own customized Left Luggage ticket.
The bottom portion was perforated and ripped off for each guest who checked in an item.

Just a few display items to dress up the buffet tables.
Mostly, the greenery were bunches of kale or asparagus or herbs tied up with twine.
The burlap bag of herbes de Provence was a real-life souvenir
I brought back from our summer trip in France!

Stay tuned for more DIY details that made this vintage train station come alive, including a ticket booth, luggage tags, guest book in the form of a passport, and our own special travel-themed table markers.
