The Bedroom Lamps Tutorial

I was shopping at HomeSense one day, one of my most favorite home goods store, and came across a candle lantern amidst some garden figurines. There was something about its shape and lines that caught my eye. I didn’t quite know what I wanted to do with it, but I knew that I didn’t need a hurricane lantern. After checking the dimensions, I discovered that it was the perfect height for my bedroom lamps. It filled the large surface of my nightstands and was tall enough to reach my Upholstered Headboard. With a little bit of help from Ikea, I was able to power it and create a much needed bedroom lamp.

Supply List

• Candle lantern
GRONO light fixture from Ikea
• Pencil
• Screwdriver
• Power drill

Step-by-Step

Step 1
Remove the metal flashing from the interior. If you’re lucky, it should just be screwed down and easily removed with a Philips screwdriver.
Step 2
Determine the center of the lantern with a little geometry. Then drill a hole large enough to fit the electrical plug through. This was roughly 1″ in diameter.

And let there be light!

It doesn’t put out an insane amount of light, to be honest, but it’s enough for some bedside reading.

Good night, all!

How do you like these bedroom lamps? Have you customized any lamps? What has been your latest repurpose project?

PROJECT SUMMARY:
X
Total Cost: The lanterns were $49.99 each, which I thought were quite expensive for candle lanterns, but as lamps, they’re quite a good deal! The GRONO lamps were $9.99 each. After taxes, each lamp cost $67.18.
X
Total Time: Not counting the time it took to find a pair of the lanterns, then waiting for the light fixture to come into stock at Ikea, turning this lantern into a lamp took about a half hour.

I’ve linked up this project at these parties here.
