Those who meet me after the year 2000 always show some element of surprise when I tell them that my favorite movie of all time is Gone With The Wind. Why is that? Is it because I seem to be too much of a modern woman to appreciate an epic classic? Is it that it seems I’m too girly and should like more current silly chick flicks?
Whatever the reason, I stand by my favorite movie selection. I mean, how can one not just fall head over heels in love with everything about Rhett Butler, delivering the most memorable and heart wrenching line in cinematic history? Or when that Scarlett ripped off her mama’s draperies from the windows and refashioned them into a stunning dress! Damn girl!!
Oh my, I’m just fanning myself thinking ’bout that amazin’ scene! (Please do imagine me saying this with a Southern accent.)
Stop. Is that where my madness with redesigning and upcycling started? Mind. Blown.
Naturally, when I saw this image on Pinterest, I was IN LOVE. As the seller doesn’t make this poster in the size and glitter effect I wanted, I decided to make my own. I’ve shared a printable for you at the bottom of this post.
I wanted this poster to go in my new powder room (which I will share with you at a later post) and wanted to glam it up a bit. So, I decorated one of the words in glitter. Here’s how I did it:
Supply List
• Clear glass or clear plastic or clear cutting mat
• Everyday double stick tape (like, for gift wrapping)
• Straight edge (ruler, etc)
• X-acto knife
• Tweezers (optional)
Step-by-Step

NOTE: I experimented with various adhesive mediums including liquid glue, glue stick, rubber cement, paste, and double stick tape. I found the tape offered the best control to get the clean, straight lines of the text.
Step 1
Stick a piece of double stick tape in the corners of the a clear plastic or cutting mat (I didn’t have either, so I used a piece of glass) where they won’t interfere with the poster. Lay the plastic/glass, tape side down. (This keeps the plastic/glass in place.) Then cover the word DAMN with long strips of double stick tape on the plastic/glass.
Step 2
Using a straight edge and X-acto knife, carefully cut out the letters in the tape. Be sure to use fresh blades - your knife needs to make clean cuts! Try to cut outside the black outlines so that you don’t see any of the lines when you add glitter. Remove all the excess tape around the letters.
Step 3
Move the glass/plastic away from the poster. With the knife, carefully peel off the letters from the glass/plastic and transfer to the poster. You may want to use a pair of tweezers to aid in laying the tape over the letters.
Step 4
Apply glitter and shake off excess. Reapply glitter to fill any holes.
GLITTER TIP: Keep your workstation and floors clean by making a glitter station. A large box or deep tray will make a nice container to contain all those little buggers from flying all over the place.

I love the contrast of the modern sans serif font against the traditional, ornate frame. The frame is from Ikea. Don’t you just love it? Will you be making one of your own?
And where are all my fellow GWTW lovers? Leave me a comment and let’s gush over everything awesome about that movie.
PROJECT SUMMARY:

Total Cost: To make this for yourself, head to your nearest large format printer with my free printable file and order a 18×24 “engineer print.” I used Staples to print this poster and it only cost $1.64 after taxes. Sure, I could’ve purchased an actual $20 poster print, but come on - look at the price difference! Plus, I didn’t trust that their printers could do a sparkly glitter effect.
X
Total Time: Not counting the time it took for me to experiment with different adhesives, glittering this poster only took ten minutes. I kid you not! Best thing about using double stick tape? Not having to wait for the glue to dry!
