When I made these busy bags for my friend’s son, I kept in mind her lifestyle. She minds her son almost 24 hours a day as her husband works crazy weird hours and is away most of the time. As a family, they visit his family quite a bit in North Vancouver and she is always out running errands with the little one. Furthermore, their house is very tastefully decorated and well put together. Knowing all this, I sought easy and non-delicate packaging for the actual bags.
These mesh bags were found at Dollarama, which is a $2+ store in Vancouver. I like them because you can see through them, they’re large enough to hold all the activities, they’re easy to clean, and they’re soft and squishable. I imagine they would be easy to grab and throw in a baby bag without worry of getting crushed or damaged. They’re also colorful, which the kids will love.
To corral all the bags, I picked out this wood box/crate from HomeSense. Keeping in mind their home decor, I wanted to keep the adult looking space of their home and not have these bags take over.
I really wanted a lid to this box, but it was challenging to find a good looking box big enough to store all the bags. I think it’s ultimately OK without the lid.
In the giftwrapping, I made a paper lid out of wrapping paper (also purchased from the dollar store, thank you very much!) and secured with a bit of twine.
The box was personalized with a chalkboard label. This label can easily be removed or erased should Shelli need to change the function of the box in the future. You know, when Langdon’s all grown up and no longer interested in busy bags.
Thanks for following me in this series! I’ve had so much fun making these bags and sharing them with you. Here are the all the activities featured in this Busy Bags Collection:
