The Strawberry Planter Tutorial

I really feel sorry for people who have strawberry allergies because I would totally die if I had such an allergy. I love all berries in general, but I do believe strawberries top the list for me. Do you agree?

This year, I added strawberry plants to my garden. I have yet to find a permanent home for them, but I’ve seen all over the Internet how they grow really well in pots - especially those strawberry pots. I didn’t have a strawberry pot readily available, but I did have a bunch of plants that needed to be transferred.

So, I created my own strawberry planter out of an old large pot that came with the house when we bought it and a small pot that we picked up for free through Craigslist many moons ago. With a bit of creativity and reusing things I had laying around the house, I made my own strawberry planter.

Supply List

• Strawberry plants
• Old large pot
• Old small pot
• Trowel
• Potting soil

Step-by-Step

Step 1
Remove strawberry plants from plastic pots.
Step 2
Loosen the roots.
Step 3
Transfer into the large pot keeping the center clear for the small pot (see Step 4). Cover with potting soil. Firmly press in the soil around the plants.
Step 4
Transfer one of the strawberry plants into the small pot, following steps 1 through 3. Then place on top of the big pot and water generously.

I only had enough plants and pots for two tiers, but you could definitely add more tiers to your version.

And look! One of the strawberries are already turning red!

Can anyone give me tips for how to grow my strawberries bigger (and grow more of them!) next season?

PROJECT SUMMARY:
X
Total Cost: The planters were free from inheritance and Craigslist. The strawberry plants were $2.50 each.
X
Total Time: 15 minutes, if that.

I’ve linked up this project at these parties here.
